I've noticed a *lot* of people that are subscribed to both the
linux-security and linux-alert lists. (Current subscription total: 7450
addresses in 79 top-level domains.)
Linux-alert postings are normally CC'd to the linux-security list; if
you're subscribed to linux-security then you don't really need to be
subscribed to linux-alert as well.
linux-alert is for bug and fix announcements, important security-related
announcements, etc., whereas linux-security is for background
discussions and work on security issues. If you're only interested in
hearing about really important matters you should be subscribed to
linux-alert. If you're interested in the background information and
discussions, as well as the important announcements, you should be
subscribed to linux-security.
One other note: since the traffic volume on linux-alert is quite low
(typically only a couple/few posts per month), subscribing to
linux-alert-digest effectively causes an alert to reach you roughly a
week later than if you were subscribed to linux-alert. There's really
no point in having a linux-alert-digest list; I'm once again considered
discontinuing it and moving its subscribers over to the regular
linux-alert list.
