I. Intent
- ----------
The Secure Linux Project exists to assist the linux community with
security related issues. The functions it is to serve may range from
advice for system administrators to helping distribution maintainers keep
their products secure to development of security related applications and
utilities. Another important function of the SLP is to review programs that
may affect the security of a linux machine in order to provide an acceptable
level of assurance to anyone installing packages that they will not compromise
the security of their system.
II. Mailing Lists
- ------------------
There are three mailing lists to help various people involved in the
Projects:
SLP Announcements
-----------------
Mailing List Address: slp-announce-list@redhat.com
Subscription Address: slp-announce-list-request@redhat.com
This list will be used to announce security related applications and reviews
written by the SLP. Other developers should feel free to announce their
products through this list as well. This list will be moderated.
SLP Discussion
--------------
Mailing List Address: slp-discuss-list@redhat.com
Subscription Address: slp-discuss-list-request@redhat.com
This is a place to discuss various ideas that may assist the SLP. Developers
and others interested in security may wish to discuss ideas for future SLP
projects on this list as well as discuss matters relating to linux security
in general. This list will be loosely moderated.
SLP Development
---------------
This is for people actively developing security products for linux as part of
the Secure Linux Project. This will deal with actual code development as
part of the project and as such is limited to those actually participating
in the implementations of the projects. General status regarding projects
discussed here will be posted to slp-announce-list or slp-discuss-list, and
upon completion all efforts of the list will be available to the linux
community. If you feel that you should be a part of this list, please e-mail
the SLP moderators privately.
III. Resources
- ---------------
Red Hat has also been generous enough to provide us with resources so that
we can have a permanent home for the Secure Linux Project. All of the work
that will be done by the Secure Linux Project will be applicable to all
distributions of linux, and does not favor any one distribution over another.
IV. Contacts
- --------------
Our official e-mail address for the project is:
Secure Linux Project <slp@redhat.com>
If you wish to contact one of the moderators individually, the e-mail addresses
are as follows:
David J. Meltzer <davem@cmu.edu>
Dave Goldsmith <daveg@escape.com>
