I noticed on my system ( nearly all Slackware 3.0 ) that it does not all ways
occur .. It seems to depend on your gid ??

skynet (airlied)% sp
bash$ sp
bash$ sec-splitvt
Segmentation fault
bash$ id
uid=666(airlied) gid=23(sysadm) groups=23(sysadm),
25(xusers),27(recipies),100(users),204(shulgin),221(2proj),222(compsoc)

But as another a/c
skynet (1000020)% sp
bash$ sp
bash$ sp
bash$ sec-splitvt
bash# id
uid=622(1000020) gid=100(users) euid=0(root) groups=100(users),222(compsoc)

So if you think your system is not affected try using another a/c ..
