In an effort to improve the delivery time for messages to the Linux
security lists (which have grown quite large and are now taking hours
for one system to deliver), I'm now setting up sendmail.cf rules to
attempt to distribute the final SMTP delivery of list messages among
different systems, based on destination domains.

This message is an initial test of the concept, with the following small
rule-set additions in place:

# Bump off to our friends.
R$*<@$+.us.>$* $#esmtp $@exogyra.cv.nrao.edu $:$1<@$2.us.>$3
R$*<@$+.net.>$* $#esmtp $@tarsier.cv.nrao.edu $:$1<@$2.net.>$3
R$*<@$+.nl.>$* $#esmtp $@dutecai.et.tudelft.nl $:$1<@$2.nl.>$3

(This is being attempted after suggestions/ideas from Roger Wolff
<R.E.Wolff@et.tudelft.nl> and Alex Yuriev <alex@bach.cis.temple.edu>.)

If this appears to work decently and helps improve delivery times, I'd
appreciate volunteers to act as hubs for both top-level domains and for
non-top-level domains that have a significant number of subscribers.
(I'll post this request when I'm ready to set things up--hopefully
within a few days--along with a current top-level domain breakdown of
the lists' propagation.)

No administrative work should be required at the volunteer sites--you'd
just be volunteering the use of your sendmail daemon and some CPU
cycles. (I'd prefer to restrict the volunteer pool to systems running
v8 sendmail, at least initially, since that's the one that I understand
the best myself and could most easily help solve any problems for.)

If there's a sendmail guru out there that thinks this is a scheme doomed
to failure, or that notices problems with my rule-sets, please drop me
e-mail and let me know. :)~
