I meant to add this as a side note on my forwarding of Alexander
Yuriev's post, but didn't remember to do so until *after* I'd hit the
send key:
Alexander's recent mention in a post regarding SATAN of the
(now-known-for-a-month) NFS server hole has caused his mailbox to become
saturated with information requests. The information contained in his
FAQ snippet (he's currently working on writing a Linux-security FAQ) is
the basic information that you need, including a pointer to patched
versions of the portmapper and the NFS-server on linux.nrao.edu (the
patches are by Olaf Kirch).
The word on this NFS hole was passed to both the linux-security and
linux-alert lists in early/mid March, but apparently a lot of people out
there missed it.
Please take it easy on Alex's mailbox out there, OK? :)~
--Up.
Note: Updates to this server will be released at
linux.nrao.edu:/pub/people/okir/nfsd and
fb0433.mathematik.th-darmstadt.de:/pub/linux/okir
