Dear Olaf,
I tried the new nfsd. For me it works great: removes a ?bug I used
to have trouble with with v 2.0: the server wouldn't allow the client
to read some links. However, as you said you would like to hear
comments, here are some.
Unfortunately I'm not an hacker, and didn't look into the source to
find any problems. Hope you'll read on anyhow:
**************** ?bug? 1
My exports file says (amongst others) the following:
/ rulkmp(ro)
/tmp rulkmp(rw)
I remember with the old mountd/nfsd to be able to mount /tmp as (rw).
This seems not to work with the new one (may be totally unrelated). I
don't know how it should work, though I would prefere being able to
mount /tmp as rw, and the rest as ro.
*************** beauty error:
To make the file auth_clnt.c compile, I had to add the following:
#ifndef NOBODY_UID
#define NOBODY_UID ((uid_t) 65534) /* The unprivileged user. */
#endif
#ifndef NOBODY_GID
#define NOBODY_GID ((gid_t) 65534) /* The unprivileged group. */
#endif
*************** probbably unrelated to your work:
This is probably unrelated to the new version. However, as there is a small
chance it is, I tell you anyway.
I seem to be anable to
rulkmp:/etc# mount
(amoungst others:)
rulcmc:/tmp on /tmp type nfs (rw,addr=132.229.1.33)
rulkmp:/etc# umount /tmp
umount: rulcmc:/tmp: device is busy
*************** my setup
My old setup:
rulcmc:usr/sbin# ./rpc.mountd -v
Universal NFS Server, version 2.0
rulcmc:/usr/sbin# ./rpc.nfsd -v
Universal NFS Server, version 2.0
The client was (always) running the old mountd and nfsd. I do assume
this should be possable. The server was (of cource) running your
new nfsd and mountd.
rulcmc:/usr/sbin$ uname -a
Linux rulcmc 1.1.59 #4 Fri Feb 17 21:24:07 MET 1995 i486
Slackware, 2.0.0.
cheers,
joost
