One of the machines I adminster has a Bernoulli disk, and is
about to get a Jaz disk. Both are SCSI devices, and media wear is an
issue with both. For some time, I used the 1.2.13 kernel with the
scsi-idle patch by wingel@ctrl-c.liu.se (Christer Weinigel). I have
upgraded to a version 2.0.x kernel, but would still like the disks to
spin down.
The most recent version of the patch I could find was
scsi-idle-1.3.98.tar.gz. When I applied it (to 2.0.24, I think), the
disk would spin down, but the system crashed at the next attempted
disk access.
The author did not answer my query. Does anyone have scsi
disks spinning down under a 2.0 kernel?
