Hello:
I recently got a SCSI tape drive from a friend, but unfortunately he
left the docs for it at home (which is pretty far away), and being in the
middle of a school year, he can't get them anytime soon. The tape drive
takes a DC 2120 (120 MB) tape cartridge. I have SCSI tape support compiled
into kernel, and the interface card seems to find the device, but I can't
access the drive. Here is the kernel message:
enigma kernel: aha152x: processing commandline: ok
enigma kernel: detection complete
enigma kernel: aha152x: vital data: PORTBASE=0x340, IRQ=11, SCSI ID=7,
reconnect=enabled, parity=enabled
enigma kernel: scsi0 : Adaptec 152x SCSI driver; $Revision: 1.8 $
enigma kernel: scsi : 1 host.
enigma kernel: Vendor: 3M Model: MCD-40/SCSI Rev: 4.00
enigma kernel: Type: Unknown ANSI SCSI revision: 01 CCS
enigma kernel: scsi : detected total.
I have traced the code, and I have found that the 'type' code for
the device is returned '16' (non-existant) when it should be actually 2
(sequential device). And since the maximum number defined at the kernel
source is 10, the device is not registered.
I was wondering whether it is because of some sort of jumper
setting/id conflict. I tried it on another computer, and it crashed! Does
anyone have any information on the jumper settings for this tape drive (3M
MCD-40/SCSI as reported by kernel) ? Also, if you have any suggestions how I
can fix this problem, please let me know.
Thanks a lot in advance. Please reply to
rr002c@uhura.cc.rochester.edu.
