I'm trying to get Slackware96 to work with a Qlogic Fast!SCSI IQ PCI-10
controller. Attached to the controller are the following: internal 2GB HD
(SCSI id0), internal tape drive (id1), and an external CD-ROM (id2). The
system also has a 1.2GB EIDE drive installed. I've managed to install to
the IDE drive by removing the tape drive from the SCSI bus. All is fine,
Linux recognizes the SCSI HD and CD-ROM and loads onto the EIDE partition.
The second the tape drive is added back to the bus Linux reports the
following during boot:
scsi: aborting command due to timeout: pid2, scsi 0, channel 0, id 1, lun
0 Test Unit Ready 00 00 00 00 qlogicisp: mbox_command loop timeout #2
qlogicisp: scsi abort failure: 8002
SCSI host 0 abort (pid2) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
qlogicisp: mbox_command loop timeout #1
qlogicisp: mbox_command loop timeout #2
qlogicisp: scsi abort failure: 8002
SCSI host 0 abort (pid2) timed out - trying harder
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
qlogicisp: mbox_command loop timeout #1
qlogicisp: mbox_command loop timeout #2
qlogicisp: scsi abort failure: 8002
SCSI host 0 abort (pid2) timed out again
probably an unrecoverable SCSI bus or device hang
The SCSI How-to indicates some devices do not fully comply with SCSI
standards and don't like to be polled at boot time for their id. This can
cause SCSI timeouts or hangs, so use the max_scsi_luns=1 boot time
parameter. I've tried this and still can't get a successful boot. This
system runs DOS, OS/2 and WINDOWS without any problems using the same
configuration. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Joe
