These use the SCSI generic driver (sg) and thus by-pass the block
subsystem (and the buffer cache). There are several "dd"
variants that can be used to test throughput (e.g. "sg_dd"
and "sgp_dd" - the latter one uses threads and will exercise
tagged queuing).
