Were these Seagate LVD drives the 160MB/s-capable drives?
If so, I had the same problem with the on-board Adaptec controller on the
Intel 440GX motherboard, which went away with kernel 2.2.16. I only tried
Seagate drives, but I think the problem will happen with any
160MB/s-capable drive. Adding a 160MB/s drive to an existing working
system will cause this trouble as well. Upgrade the kernel (or just the
Adaptec driver) first, then install the drive.
