Giving Up on aic7xxx: Recommend a SCSI Controller?

After three months' effort, I have gotten nowhere in making the aic7xxx
driver work properly with my Adaptec 2940U2W controller. No matter what,
it hangs temporarily, and that's just not acceptable for a web server. 

I'd like suggestions from anyone on a better replacement, particularly
those who are running RAID-1 or RAID-5.
