I have a 2G drive, and am trying to install Linux (from the Slackware CD-ROM
release with the 1.0.9 Linux kernel). I have an Adaptec 1542b controller
with the BIOS upgrade for extended translation. I have a few problems
that I'd really appreciate some help on.
First off, if this is my third disk, can I boot off it at all, using
LILO? My assumption is no, because the BIOS only supports two drives.
Which leads me to the next question...
When I configure my drive for unit 1, (the second SCSI drive), I get the
"interrupt received but no mailbox" message, and I can't see any SCSI
devices. In the SCSI howto, this is a known problem with kernels
earlier than .99.14k. Since I am supposedly running a 1.0.9 kernel,
why do I still see this message? I don't think I want to disable
extended translation on this drive (because then dos can't see my large
DOS partition at the beginning of it). Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!
