I'm terribly sorry for doing this, but I'm desperate. I've only been a
member
of this list for 30 seconds, so I apologize for the intrusion.
I'm trying to install Slackware v 3.0 on a Quantum ProDrive LPS 240MB
SCSI drive (aka DEC RZ24L-E 240MB) using an Adaptec AVA1520
SCSI controller. I have also used the AVA1515. I have tried installing
to three different platforms - a 386DX-33 (ISA), 486DX-33 (ISA), and a
6x86-P150+ (PCI). I have tried several boot images -- sbpcd, aspbcd,
scsinet1 (maybe others, as well). I have read every FAQ, How-to, etc.
I can find, and keep getting the same exact error, regardless of what
configuration I try. The error is:
The kernel autodetects my SCSI card and determines its characteristics
perfectly ((From memory, so sorry I don't have everything) AVA 152x,
parity enabled, int 12, powerdown (or whatever it's called) request on,
... ??) but then when it tries to find my HD drive, it sends out
requests,
but says (??) command not found, or something like that. It tries many
times, and eventually times out. It should be noted this drive works
perfectly under DOS, and I have tried several drives -- two of these
drives,
three DEC RZ23's, and one DEC RZ23L.
It seems my problems are probably user errors, since I bought the
AVA1515 and 1520 for the specific reason the SCSI FAQ said they were
supported. Any help/hints/ideas would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated!
I am truly at the end of my rope. I have been fiddling around with this
problem for three weeks now (not continuously), and am tired of buying
different drives and cards, etc. Thanks for your time.
