The author referred to some specifics such as WWN mapping and dynamic 
insertion/removal of devices and the management of these devices. I tend
agree with him on those points.

Also, you can get around this with configuring the "max_id" parameter in the 
Scsi_Host structure upwards, at driver initialization time. I've 
tested with up to 40 FC drives.
