A few years ago I we had repeated disk failures in one disk subsystem.
After replacing the disk for the second time within one or two months
we examined the power supply with a voltmeter which showed that 5V / 12V
were OK. After the third disk shotly after we again meassured the
voltage supplied, this time using a 500MHz digital scope. This time
we saw that the 5V did change betwen ~ 2.5V and close to 8V at times.
After replacing the powersupply the disk which previously indicated
media errors was working perfectly well again for the next few years.
