I'm having a bit of a problem with my new system. I get the latest and greatest
SCSI adapter from Adaptec, the 2940W. I did look in the hardware compatibility
HOWTO to ensure that it is supported by linux. However, I failed to notice what
VERSION of linux supports it (v. 1.3.6)
I've got linux 1.2.x on a CDROM. I just have one SCSI HD in the system. Of
course the bootdisk does not recognize the Adaptec 2940 SCSI adapter.
Question 1: Is there a way to install the "stable" 1.2.x version I've got with
the Adaptec 2940W?
Question 2: If the answer to question 1 is NO!
then:
If I get another SCSI adapter that works with Linux 1.2.x and install Linux
1.2.x can I then just get the Linux 1.3.6 scsi drivers and apply them to the
1.2.x linux system?
I do want to avoid being on the "bleeding edge" by installing Linux 1.3.x.
I'm not even sure I can install 1.3.x since I don't currently have linux (and
gcc) on the box. i.e. there's no cool boot/ram disk auto setup feature.
In a nutshell, I want Linux 1.2.x to work with my Adaptec 2940W scsi controller.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
