Recent Tekram PCI-SCSI boards based on SYM53C8XX chips use NVRAM (24c16)
compatible with SYMBIOS boards.
If you have such a board and want the ncr/sym53c8xx drivers to support the
NVRAM setup, you should try to flash it with the adequate SYMBIOS bios
image. I have been told that flashing the 8xx_64.rom BIOS image using the
flash8x5.exe utility from SYMBIOS should work just fine. You may try this
at your own risks and let me know if it works as expected, and if the
driver then is able to read the NVRAM as a SYMBIOS layout.
Note that if this works, the user set-up utility will be also changed by
the SYMBIOS one, and you will have to reconfigure the NVRAM prior to
booting the machine. You also must be careful about O/Ses that contains
Tekram originated drivers that may not recognize the board anymore, after
the BIOS/NVRAM has muted to SYMBIOS format.
