Thanks for ending 3+ days of frustration. FYI the SuSE distribution (6.2)
works fine with the 1 GB RAM.

I've had problems with the standard kernel that comes on the RH6.0
CD not supporting installs onto a 1Gigabyte RAM machine.  Remove
some DIMMS and do the install.  Then get virgin 2.0.36 source (without
RH's modifications) and build a new kernel.  I believe you'll be okay
if you do this.
