Hi,
I have a serious problem installing Linux on my box at home.
I have got an Adaptec AHA1542CF controller, a 486 PCI board, two
SCSI HD, IBM DSAS-3540 SCSI-II and Rodime T03000 SCSI-I, internal and
a Toshiba XM-3301TA SCSI-II CD-ROM external.
I'm using kernel 1.2.12 with Slackware 2.2.0
When I try to install Linux from CD onto the IBM disk, everything works =
fine =
until I get to the stage when the install program copies and unpacks the=
=
several packages onto the disk. After the first few packages, the driver=
=
reports infinite time outs and the whole system hangs.
I have consulted the SCSI-FAQs and tried everything they advice, such as=
checking the cabling, enabling synch negotiation, etc, no success.
I have no clue anymore what to do.
Does anybody have encountered a similar problem with the Adaptec or
does anybody have an idea what I can do to get Linux going.
I used to have Linux installed on my old 386DX33, AHA1542CF and Rodime H=
D with
the same external CD-ROM.
That worked very well, the problems appeared when I got the IBM and the =
486.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Dirk
