So I assume you have disabled, in the BIOS, all Ultra SCSI features, and
you have checked that Linux reports that the speed for each device
is not Ultra.  Else you need 1.5 m maximum, and 30 cm minimum between
devices.

The Linux aic7xxx driver presumably will tell you what setting the
card is in (dmesg).
