Not wanting to say that MS-*'NT is better, but NT timeouts after
*10* seconds. Yes, 10.

(I have seen it timeouting with an old IBM DCHS drive from 1997 *gasp*
 during an automatic block restoring).

Depending on some yet unknown parameters, sometimes NT retries,
sometimes NT doesn't resend this data anymore and you lost it.
