OK, EISA it is!

Greetings again,
OK, after being deluged with comments about avoiding ISA in favor of
EISA, I've decided that EISA is the way to go. I'm getting price quotes
on an Adaptec AHA-2740 controller this morning. I'm running Slackware
1.1.59 and this is a supported card as I understand it.
Its also nice to know that I'll be bypassing the BIOS limits. I recall
reading somewhere that Linux lets you do this. That's why I was puzzled
by the "full 8GB" comments in the Adaptec/Buslogic pages. It just didn't
make any sense.
This is my first foray into the nebulous world of SCSI, so I hope
people don't mind me popping in with more questions from time to
time. Actually, here's one, now that I think about it: is it OK to
simply plug the SCSI controller card into one of the computer's
expansion slots, or do I need to hook it directly to the motherboard?
This HP Vectra 486-20 is pretty congested around the motherboard,
and it would be easier to use the expansion slots to be honest.
