I'm not sure if this will help, but here goes nothing.
I have a K6-II 450 w/ a 2940U2W and CRW4416S, running stock RH6.0.
cdrecord did not work for me initally (different problems though). I
rebulit it from the source rpm an dnow it works perfectly
