In NEC 8100 computer SYM8951U with WDE4550 drive causes data corruption
during reading. Same drive connected to AHA2940UW using the same LVD/SE
cable (with LVD/SE terminator) does not.
Detailed info:
Got generic noname P233 PC, installed SYM8951U and WDE4550, installed
RedHat 6.0. Had it running as a web server for some time.
Moved card and a disk to the NEC 8100. Boot process fails with CRC
error(!?). Installed RedHat 6.0 on an IDE drive, booted from it, loaded
ncr53c8xx module. I had a copy of RedHat 6.0 on both IDE and WDE4550
made from the same site. Simple diff between WDE4550 and IDE drives gave
me almost all *.rpm files "differ". Removed SYM8951U and replaced it
with AHA2949UW. No errors found.
Additional info:
On NEC 8100 BIOS assigns the same IRQ for NIC and SCSI controller.
Eugene.
