I've followed Henrik's advice and checked the termination. It's a
jumper on the drive and it looks OK. I've tried a second, shorter
cable just to make sure it isn't at fault. The firmware I have is
already 4.17 which seems to be the latest available.

The 7502 is the only device on this SCSI chain. Failing any other
advice I'm going to replace the SCSI controller as I know 7502 is
a popular Linux burner. I'm assuming that the motherboard/chipset
can't result in the problem I'm experiencing?
