If it's the only device on the bus, you can always revert to the
catastrophically non-disconnecting mode, by issuing an identify
message of 0x80 instead of 0xC0 (assuming LUN 0).

Of course, if the scanner is really borken (!) it will ignore
your feable attempts to prevent him from disconnecting.
