You're sure to make allies here starting out like that :-P Tell the
folks here who are actually writing the code again how much everything
they're doing is crap...

You are thinking only of your particular interests here.  A simple
solution is good, however you seem to only consider your own needs.
It appears you haven't seen a thing anyone's written on the subject
before jumping in, and you've obviously not thought about the problem
very hard.

You also haven't noticed or checked on the solution people here have
talked about most, /devfs, which does exactly what you describe
without discounting what others need from the OS.

Keep your flaming to a minimum until you've listened to others besides
yourself. Others may be more polite, but I personally don't suffer
fools well.
