Hi - I myself got similar problems on executing mt -f /dev/nst0 fsf;
I found in dejanews that mt-st version 0.5 has a bug and therefore
I downgraded to mt-st version 0.4 (rpm -q mt-st gives back: mt-st-0.4-5)
and my fsf problems vanished...
