I'm looking for a really working PCI SCSI solution for my 486DX2, ASUS SP3G mail+news server. - Currently I'm using the onboard NCR controller with a Quantum Empire 2100S (2GB) and an old Fujitsu M2263S (600MB) disk. After about two month of operating flawlessly I ran into the infamous "resetting for second half of retries" hangups. Getting a new Quantum 2100S solved this for another month, but now it happens again. Upgrading to rel11 of the NCR driver improved things somewhat, but not entirely. I sort of "fixed" this by removing the reset during the SCSI retries: no hangups anymore, but errors from the SCSI disk. - Then I thought that maybe getting an Adaptec 2940 controller might solve my problems. But browsing thru comp.os.linux.* I read that the new driver in the 1.3.x kernel is not entirely stable and that there are subtle problems with Quantum drives in general, the 2100S in particular. :-( So I'm sort of stuck. Is there any PCI SCSI controller with a totally stable and working LINUX driver? How stable is the new 1.3.x 2940 driver? Or is there a general problem with Quantum drives? Help! ;-) Martin -- _____ _____ | |___ | Martin Junius FIDO: 2:2452/110.1 | | | | | | Republikplatz 3 Internet: mj@sungate.fido.de |_|_|_|@home| D-52072 Aachen, Germany Phone: +49-241-86931 !!!VOICE!!!
