My problem was fixed by compiling a new kernel on a different machine
(thank heavens I had an extra one laying around) with support for
NCR53c8XX. I copied that kernel to a floppy disk, and booted the system
with it, andd voila, I was in the system. The Tekram DC390F was not
being seen because I compiled the kernel with support for NCR53c7,8XX
instead of NCR53C8XX. Recompiling the kernel with support for the
NCR53c8XX solved my problem.

Thanks to all of you who responded.

Robert
