Probably true.  I just happened to remember that my external narrow
drive is a Seagate Elite A/V drive so it is pretty fast.  I just
thought given roughly the same speed I should expect block transfers
to be faster.

It is possible that a side benefit is less time on the bus by the wide
drives.
