My thanks to everyone with their suggestions on how to handle my problems
with the DPT2044UW and Adpatec 2940 cards preventing all drives from being
seen.
Thanks especially to Dario who correctly pointed out that if the SCSI
drivers are not embedded in the kernel (ie are modularised) then they will
not properly handle the drives.
I have since recompiled my kernel, and then run /sbin/lilo and then
rebooted. Upon boot, the cards are detected and all drives seen (YAY!!) but
then after the scsi cards are initialised, Linux tries to run the MODULES
(even though card support is now embedded) at which point the system hangs.
Why?
I have removed the module entries from /etc/conf.modules - what more must I
do to stop the modules attempting to load because it hangs the machine every
time.
Cheers
David Leigh
