Hello Readers,

I have an Adaptec 2940UW and have an internal 68-pin HDD attached.
Additionally, I have an internal CDROM, and a scanner attached. The scanner is
attached to my internal 50-pin cable via a converter to convert IDC50 to HD50 and
then another converter to convert from HD50 to DB25, and I have a DB25 passive
terminator on the scanner. This is setup this way because I wanted to avoid
using a second SCSI card for external devices. (You can only use two out of
three connections on my card and I am using both the internal connectors.) Total
cable length to the scanner is 7 feet. The internal cable is four feet, and I
have three feet of cable between the two converters listed above.

      2ft 2ft 3ft
[card]-->[cdrom]-->[converter]-->[converter]-->[scanner]-->[terminator]
     IDC50 IDC50 HD50

My problem is that I am getting very unreliable performance from the scanner.
Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. It will work everytime for one
time immediately after boot, and then things get weird. Have I done something
wrong cabling wise? Will a DB25 passive terminator properly terminate my setup,
or do I need to get a passthrough terminator and terminate just before I change
to DB25? Are there any SCSI test programs to help me diagnose whether SANE is to
blame or my SCSI setup and how??????

Please email me direct too.

Thanks,
-STEVEl
