FWIW, AViiON, ala DG-UX does this, albiet poorly. (Be preparted to FSCK your
drives regularly..) I think it's about the only *nix that can do it
-simultaneously-. The 'common' solution is to have a 'floating' IP address
that bounces between 2 machines, and both machines NFS to that IP address.
One machine will be connecting to itself, the other machine will be NFS'ed
across. That way, it's invisible to the applications (mount the devices hard,
NFS will lock until the IP address establishes itself on the other machine)
and very easy to implement!
When Sequent implemented Clustering on Unix, they had both CPU's having the
SAME SCSI ID - and some extra intelligence in the SCSI cards so that they
wouldn't have a hissy fit when they saw data flying across the scsi buss that
it didn't spit out.
