[forwarded from linux-kernel as I forgot to add linux-scsi to the cc
 list]

Booting up 2.1.125 on our main webserver results in an infinite loop
of bus resets as the driver attempts to probe the devices.

The system has an Asus p2l97-ds twin PII M/board with onboard aic7880,
and in addition to this we also have an adaptec 3940 for a grand total
of 3 ultra-narrow scsi chains.

[boot messages from 2.1.124]

 scsi0 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.20/3.2.4

 scsi1 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.20/3.2.4
        <Adaptec AHA-394X Ultra SCSI host adapter>
 scsi2 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.20/3.2.4

 scsi : 3 hosts.

 scsi : detected 4 SCSI disks total.

At the point marked [***] above, the 5.1 driver in 2.1.125 goes into
an infinite 'lets reset the bus on scsi0' loop.

This is something of a showstopper bug for us.
