Sure. This is done in a number of OS'- it's a point to point connection.

Further, once you get to Fibre Channel, you can just plain carry
IP over the wire instead of IP on top of SCSI packets.

I think I have a prejudice against using NFS. I've been kinda not
paying attention to Linux development for a while, but isn't there
a Network Disk in the 2.1.X kernels?
