Hi there,
Bit of a weird one. We've just spent the last two days tracking down a
SCSI problem and we wonder if anyone else has experienced a similar
case. If not... be warned!!
We've got a number of 54Gb RAID 0+1 boxes hung off the end of a number
of Dual PII300, 192MB RAM etc.. running linux(2.0.33 and 2.0.35). In a
couple of new boxes that we have been setting up we have been getting
SCSI Bus reset errors when trying to format these boxes (ext2fs).
Anyway, having tried every combination of everything ever we finally
tracked the problem down to the BIOS on the adaptec card. The new oxes
are running adaptec AHA2940UW Bios 1.32. When we tried the new boxes
with an old adaptec card (Bios 1.25) from a box we knew worked, the
problem went away. Likewise the new card in an old box caused the
problem to appear in the old box.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with the Adaptec Card (BIOS
1.32) on large raid devices?
We've changed, upgraded, downgraded, replaced everything we can lay our
hands on (cables, cards, drives, os etc.) so the only option we have
left is to replace the cards... unless that is you guys know of the
problem and it is a linux kernel incompatibility with the new adaptec
bios and someone is working on a patch.
Anyway, any comments/news welcomed
Cheers
Ed
