Hi,
Setup is a PPro 200 with PCI 2940UW card. 2 2gb IBM Wide hard drives on
one side. Tape, CD-ROM, Zip and Scanner on other side. Also a 3.8gb IDE
hard drive and an IDE CD on same system. Everything works fine in
Win95.
Running RedHat 5.0 distribution. Hard drives and tape work in 2.0.32
kernel and associated aic7xxx driver. CD, Zip and Scanner I'm not sure.
Upgrade my kernel from 2.0.32 to 2.0.35. Lost access to my tape drive
in the process. Found this mailing list and source of aic7xxx driver.
Downloaded 5.1.0-pre13 through pre15 updates and patches, including the
pre13 RedHat kernel RPM's.
First tried patching the kernel, but patch returned error message. What
version of patch do I need to run to apply these patches? What
parameters should I be specifying on the patch command?
So I installed the kernel rpms and got a kernel and made an initrd
image. I now have access to my SCSI CD-rom and my SCSI tape drive back.
The hard drives still work. Have no software to test the scanner yet.
I am still having trouble with the ZIP drive, although last night I had
trouble with it from Win95 as well. But Win95 would mount the disk, and
show me the file system, where linux would not. I have been able to
mount the Zip disk exactly once from linux so I have the right device
(sdc4), but cannot get it to work reliably. I have little enough faith
in Iomega to be willing to blame them, but if anyone has any hints
(short of putting it on it's own SCSI card; I have no more slots or
IRQ's) to help get this to work better I would appreciated it. Would
the pre14 or pre15 driver help here?
