Howdie,

I've got the following problem with linux. Sorry if I posted this to the
wrong person(s).

problem: trying to sort out IRQs and IOPORTs of my PCI and ISA PNP Cards
that seem to collide.
More specifically the (subject) card seems to collide with irq from
ttyS0

Data:
- ISA PNP SYM NCR53C416 Card, came with my HP Scanner 5P, works fine
under WInNT, IRQ 7, IO 240-25f, under Linux tries IRQ 4, which is
already in use by ttyS0
- NE2000 Card, IRQ 10, no problem under NT or Linux
- SoundBlaster, IRQ 5, no problem under NT or Linux
- Internal Modem, ttyS3
- ATI Mach64 PCI thingy video card

questions:

- if "cat /proc/interrupts" doesn't list a certain IRQ, does that mean
that IRQ is free for use?

- "cat /proc/ioports" lists, for every device, two addresses. I assume
the first one is the BASE address, so what's the second address, and
can/do I need to fill that address out somewhere (like where in
isapnptools.conf for instance)

- what's the difference between "port" and "base" and "mem"?

- If I use isapnp after linux is booted, can I check interrupts and
ioports to see if anything's changed?

- What driver does the kernel need for NCR53C416, is the generic
NCR53C400 scsi driver sufficient or does it need the NCR53c406b (or
both)? (And what about those "extensions"?)

- Should I enable NCR53C400 or NCR5380 or neither in the parameter-list?

- Is the NCR53C416 port or memory mapped?

- Besides the SCSI questions, is there a mailinglist for ISA, PNP, PCI
and IRQ conflicts?

Everything works, as far as I can tell, except the ISA PNP SCSI thigny.
