I have a Exabyte 8505 driver and I am using linux 2.0.34. I ran into a
problem today when trying to extract tar files from an exabyte tape that
had many file markers (block of nulls). I issue a mt command: mt -f
/dev/st0 fsf 1, and for some reason the driver rewinds the tape after each
operation. When I issue the mt -f /dev/st0 tell, it is always at block 0.
I moved over to a SGI and I used thir dirver "tps0d6nr" which is a no
rewind option. I could not find a option within the driver on linux or
mt to tell it to turn auto rewind off. This is a problem in restoring
these tapes.
Does anyone know the secret to doing this? I read though README.st in
/usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/ and to no avail. Is ther e a different
device minor number which the driver might recognise to do this?
Any help would be appricated!!
Thanks,
Walt
