Oops, I really meant to type ISA, not IDE here.  This controller does work fine
with Linux, and it's really fun to use, especially once you set up autofs to
mount and dismount automatically upon requesting the device.

So again, if it's possible to use an ISA controller (with the same external
connector, if possible), it would be much easier.

Perhaps you might also try a later version of the adaptec driver.  Also be sure
to not use the auto-termination feature of the controller, as I understand there
have been problems with it in the past.
