The SCSI-HOWTO on tsx-11 says that the Adaptec 294x series is supported by
Linux. However, I'm booting the latest slackware scsinet1 kernel (1.2.8) and
it's telling me

scsi : 0 hosts.

The SCSI drive and CD-ROM work under DOS, so it's probably not a hardware
problem.

Do I have to trade this controller in on something else, or is linux
supposed to detect 294x series controllers?

I'm gonna have a hard time installing linux if I can't even access the
destination media.
