Just wanted to post back to the list that the simms on the DPT card were
bad, and that caused all my trouble.  With a real parity simm, both the
eata and eata_dma drives seem to work just fine.  I did about 24h of heavy
disk i/o tests with eata with no problems, and then a few more hours with
eata_dma.

Thanks to all who gave advice...especially Dario who was able to tell me
exactly what was wrong.
