Hi,
I am attempting to install Linux on a 386 system. I have a SCSI HD that
I would like to use as my root. This drive is attached to an Acculogic ISA
card that is based on the NCR53c406a chip. The various brands of Linux
that I've tried don't detect this SCSI card. I get a "no ports available"
error when I try to boot. I have tried the kernel that specifically
supports this chip to no avail.
This card and drive function perfectly within DOS, ie. I can cd to
drive D: and make directories and read and write files etc. The
termination seems to be fine and I've tried changing the card to a
different 16 bit slot. When I run the Acculogic diagnostics program
everything checks out fine. It is installed at address 0x0340 and IRQ 11
with no DMA. I have noticed that the SCSI BIOS (?) is disabled. Does
anyone notice anything obvious that might be wrong? I can post all the
technical info about the system configuration later if it will help a
diagnosis.
thanks in advance, John White.
