Hi,
I am currently running the 2.0.33 kernel and using the defult aic7xxx
driver that comes standard with the kernel. However, I have been trying
to upgrade to a newer version of the driver (5.0.17) without any luck. On
boot it starts to scan the SCSI bus and times out on ID 0 (Seagate
Barracuda F/W), waits 5 seconds to reset and then fails again. It keeps
trying to reset the bus to no avail. My current stock 2.0.33 driver wait
15 seconds which works fine, however it never times out on ID 0 upon boot.
I have checked the settings by running the xconfig target and the delay is
set to 15 seconds, I have even tried setting the delay #define in
aic7xxx.c to 15; all to no avail. I am a new linux user, have I missed
something that is painfully obvious? I checked the SCSI archives and
couldn't find a similar problem, so any help on this matter would be
greatly appreciated.
Also, while looking through some other people's boot messages I have
noticed that the wide devices have a special message before they are
recognized saying that they are operating in wide mode, I do not get this
on my wide devices (the barracuda) is this normal? Is my drive not using
wide transfers?
Thank you for any help you can offer,
Paul
