Hi all!
I've a ncr 810A controller with a tape TDC 3600 rev =08: and a zip plus
(rev J.66). Linux is 2.0.33 + ncr 2.6l.
I've no problem with writing data to the tape, but when I try to read a
long tar ( ~ 120MB ), sometimes (and at random point) tar exit with 'Error reading
/dev/st0' and I find these lines in the syslog:
May 9 15:28:55 kernel: ncr53c810a-0-<4,0>: extraneous data discarded.
May 9 15:28:55 kernel: ncr53c810a-0-<4,0>: COMMAND FAILED (89 0) @01c5e820.
I've got these messages with several system load:
1) only tar tv /dev/tape
2) tar tv /dev/tape + kernel compile + 2 tar (in parallel) tzf on files on zip
3) tar tv /dev/tape + dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/null bs=512
And with the same load sometimes the tape test is successful...
The zip drive, instead, works perfectly..

bye,
Emanuele
