The worst problem with IDE is it's limitation on cable length.  The
standard limits the length of cabeling for good physical reasons and
cables conforming to these limits are a really hard limit in many
cases.  Dunno if those limits changed again for Ultra.  Whatever, there
was a reason why they had to add CRC (ECC?) to the transfer protocol.
