We have just received a Sony 4000E DAT drive which is supposed to have
hardware compression. Each time we use the tape however we get the
following errors in syslog:
May 2 03:00:01 bulldog kernel: st0: Error with sense data: extra data
not valid
Current error st09:00: sense key Illegal Request
May 2 03:00:01 bulldog kernel: Additional sense indicates Invalid field
in para
meter list
May 2 03:00:01 bulldog kernel: st0: Can't set default compression.
This is using 2.0.33 Linux on a Pentium system with and Adaptec 2940UW
scsi card.
Our backups certainly don't get more than 2GB per tape. Does any one know
how to enable the compression on this drive?
