Gday all
I'm afraid I'm at my wits end on this one.
For a number of days now I have been trying to get a boot disk to
recognise the scsi host adapter in a compaq prosignia vs.
Without any sucess.
This is not the first SCSI 2 machine I have installed but the other one
was a generic with a aha152x.
I have read the howto's and the linux scsi newsgroups and the recent
mail on this mailing list and it has left me wondering if I'll be able
to get this ancient piece of hardware to cooperate.
I get "0 scsi hosts found" message on boot.
The system is this:
Compaq prosignia VS.......-compaq EISA mother booard with 486DX2 66
RAM 64 Meg
SCSI controller NCR53C710 integrated on motherboard
address 8000 irq 11. These are both immovable
1 x Seagate SCSI HD ID 0
1 x SCSI CDROM ID 2
Network Compaq LNET integrated on mother board.
I have been trying to boot using a slakware 3.3 boot disk.
Using the N_53c7xx.s image without sucess.
and using the generic scsi image also without sucess.
I have also tried with a redhat 5.0 boot disk this was unable to find
the host using autoprobing but when given the address and irq of
the board it will start scanning the scsi bus.
Unfortunatly it stops at that point without returning.
Already I have checked the compaq ftp site and collected the latest
rompaq upgrade for this machine.
And I have tried to see if the compaq movepci utility might work but I
didn't have any luck.
I was given the impression from some of the documentation that I read
that the NCR53c7xx driver does not accept command line parameters like
the aha152x (which is how I got my other machine working). Is this so.
In desperatation I have tested the system by installing NT4.0. This
worked flawlessly.
The scsi HD and cable are both brand new.
Thanks muchly for your time....
Dave
